Sensitive restoration for a distinguished Victorian home

St. David’s House in Noctorum, Wirral, is a striking Victorian villa dating back to the 1860s, originally built during the rapid expansion of Birkenhead. With commanding views across the Wirral peninsula, the property required thoughtful architectural enhancements that would preserve its historic character while improving functionality for modern living. Arts Architecture International was commissioned to introduce subtle yet impactful modifications, including enhancing the grandeur of the main entrance façade, designing a Victorian-style conservatory overlooking the garden, enlarging and reorganising the kitchen layout, and improving the bathroom arrangements throughout the property. Particular care was taken to restore decorative architectural features that had been lost over time. The original polychrome brickwork was carefully respected and extended, while new openings and entrance details were designed using matching stone quoins to seamlessly integrate with the historic fabric of the building. The result is a carefully balanced renovation that honours the home’s Victorian heritage while introducing elegant and practical contemporary living spaces. A similar approach can be seen in our work on The Thatched House and Green Lodge, where careful design interventions were developed to respect the character of the existing buildings. Contract Value: Approx. £150k Project Status: Completed in 2020
