Designing a contemporary low-energy home overlooking Mote Park
Green Lodge in Maidstone, Kent, is a bespoke low-energy detached home designed by Arts Architecture International in 2020 for a unique site overlooking the beautiful landscape of Mote Park. The project was carefully developed to combine contemporary architecture, sustainability, and a strong connection to the surrounding environment. Constructed using a timber-framed structure for rapid on-site assembly, the home features a refined material palette of Siberian Larch cladding, Kentish Ragstone, and through-coloured render, creating a modern yet contextually sensitive appearance. The house was designed with sustainability at its core. Exceptional insulation, airtight construction, triple glazing, and an MVHR heat recovery system work together to significantly reduce energy consumption and improve year-round comfort. A sedum roof further softens the visual impact of the building when viewed from the park surroundings. Internally, the layout was thoughtfully arranged to maximise natural light and views. The ground floor accommodates two bedrooms, a family bathroom, and an open kitchen-dining wing overlooking the garden, while a raised office pavilion provides elevated park views above the boundary wall. The principal living spaces and master bedroom suite are positioned on the first floor to fully capture panoramic outlooks across Mote Park.
