Arts and Cultural

Arts and Cultural buildings form a major part of Arts Architecture’s portfolio of work

Our Director, David Wright has a professional career spanning almost forty years in the sector, initially in buildings for the performing arts, and later branching out into convention centres, museums, galleries and visitor centres.

Theatres and Auditoriums

Arts Architecture has been carrying out work in the Performing Arts sector since its inception. David Wright began his architectural career in 1983 working on the refurbishment of the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford, and went on to lead the design teams for the redevelopments of many historic theatres, including the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield, the Dome and Corn Exchange in Brighton and the London Coliseum.

David also worked on refurbishments of the Theatre Royal, Newcastle; the New Theatre, Cardiff; the Lyceum, Crewe; the Prince Edward Theatre, London; the Theatre Royal, Sydney, Australia; the Winter Gardens, Malvern; and the Grand Opera House, Belfast.

His new build auditorium work includes the Anvil, Basingstoke, and the National Convention Centre, Qatar (five auditoriums from 300 to 3000 seats).

Arts Architecture has carried out numerous performing arts projects in UK, Finland, Greece, the UAE, Egypt, The Philippines and China, in architectural, interior design and theatre consultancy roles.

Museums, Galleries and Visitor Centres

Arts Architecture offers an all-round design service for Museums. Our in-house team is supplemented with our associated specialist consultants as required for individual projects.

We believe that the planning of museum buildings should be integrated with the design of their permanent displays from the outset, and that the stories the museum is telling should be major drivers in the architectural solution.

We are also adept at brief-writing, development and space planning for the non-public functions of museums, including collection handling and storage, conservation facilities and education Spaces. We have worked on museum projects in UK, Oman, UAE and Brunei.
