Islamic Galleries, Brunei Darussalam
Interpretive planning and design of the permanent galleries in a prestigious new exhibition and research centre in Brunei, in collaboration with exhibition designers JJA.
A new home and study centre for the Sultan of Brunei’s collection of Qur’ans, Islamic manuscripts, fossils and minerals, astronomical and other scientific instruments, and Islamic religious items, displayed in a series of nine galleries.
Sultan’s Armed Forces Museum, Muscat, Oman
A major development study for an existing museum housed in the Bait-al-Falaj, an historic fort set in a heritage landscape, again in collaboration with JJA.
Provision of major new buildings to protect the vehicles, aircraft and ships from the challenging Omani climate, including a new large-span structure set back from the historic fort and linked to it via a series of semi-underground galleries and a new public entrance pavilion.
Military Museums Store, Abu Dhabi, UAE
A new storage and conservation facility for the United Arab Emirates Military Museums Authority to house their entire collection while they plan and construct a new military museum. The collection ranges in size from medals and cap badges up to tank transporters and aircraft.
The Main Building Cluster provides high-quality storage and conservation facilities for both the Small Object collection and the entire Macro collection.
Guildhall Museum, Rochester, Medway
A Development Study and Heritage Statement for this group of listed buildings in Rochester High Street.
The centrepiece is the 17th century Court Hall, listed Grade I.
The requirements were to create proper disabled access; expansion of permanent display space; a larger temporary exhibition space; upgraded collection stores; a cafe; a better shop; dedicated education room; and flexible space that can be hired for private events.
Royal Engineers’ Museum, Brompton, Medway
The Royal Engineers’ Museum, Library and Archive is a Grade II listed military museum and library in Gillingham. It tells the story of the Corps of Royal Engineers and of military engineering in general.
We helped to prepare a bid for HLF funding to consolidate the Museum and Library collections within the same building, allowing public access; to re-display both the WW I and WW II Galleries; and to create a better Special Exhibitions gallery.
Ecotourism Centre, Suhur, Oman
A new visitor centre exploring the globally important flora and fauna of the Dhofar region of Oman, next to one of the most important sites, Suhur Cave, housing several large, protected colonies of bats.
We developed the interior of the public spaces, including a permanent exhibition focusing on the unique geology and biodiversity of the region in collaboration with COWI LLP and museum designer Jasper Jacob.
Auction Mart Visitor Centre, Hawes, N Yorkshire
A visitor centre for Hawes in North Yorkshire.
It contains a permanent educational exhibition as well as craft-related retail units and managed workspaces, temporary exhibition space, and a 100-cover refectory coupled with a multi-purpose community space, designed to appear as a series of individual buildings rather than one large mass, to reduce the overall visual impact in what is otherwise a domestic-scale environment.
Dartington Hall, Devon
Work at Dartington on the Case for Support for a £15m fundraising campaign to repurpose the estate and secure critical investment for the new overall economic model of operation.
An important part of the new model is to encourage paying visitors (including families with children) to come to attend short courses and increase their secondary spend.
We developed and modelled the proposed visitor experiences.
