In addition to our architectural services, we offer an economic and fully in-house service for writing Historic Reports, Heritage Statements, Impact Assessments and Conservation Plans for all our historic building projects, in addition these can also be provided for landscapes, estates and gardens. Heritage Statement A document that identifies the building and what is important or unusual about its history as revealed in how it has been built and decorated. It may also have what is known as a ‘gazetteer’, which describes the history of any internal space which is being changed, and highlights elements are important or even damaging to what is important about that room e.g. a Victorian fireplace surround, or historic doors. Impact Assessment This uses the information about what is important, structurally and to the history of the building, also other buildings and landscape around it, and identifies how the changes being proposed to the building impact this and showing how they have been considered in the design. Conservation plan Similar to a heritage statement but it is usually for much larger Grade II* or Grade I listed buildings, which are in a varied state of repair. In this case it looks at the history in much more detail, relating it to the national as well as regional importance of a building and or estate. It then identifies the approaches need to be taken to the conservation and maintenance of the significant parts of the building and landscape using expert advice. Historic report Historical Reports are sometimes commissioned to give the full history of a site for larger properties during the planning process as part of a Heritage Statement. Also, you may be personally interested in the history of your property and would like to commission a short report. Historic reports can be tailor made to your particular interest and use. You might own a winery on an old farm, and want to tell the story of the estate, or have a house that once played an important part in the history of the village or town, such as a coffee shop on a historic high street. We can do the research and then help you use it to tell the story to your customers. Characterisation report This report looks at the estate, garden and parkland that you own and divides it up in to character areas. These are identified by the nature of the landscape, e.g. riverside, hillside, commercial buildings etc. It then treats each area individually in describing what is important or damaging to the area or what can be developed or improved in terms of management in the future.
