About Arts Architecture
Listening is at the core of our approach. We come to every project with an open mind and believe that good design arises from a thorough understanding of the needs and aspirations of the user client. Our job is to help them to visualise their needs and express their ideas, and to give them concrete form through a careful balance of innovation, practicality and affordability. That is why we like to be involved in projects from the early stages, helping develop the brief and preparing options studies before developing solutions.
As well as designing new buildings and spaces, we are very experienced in working with existing structures, many of them listed or in historic settings. We start by immersing ourselves in the site and its immediate environment, to inform the design approach that will evolve. In the case of historic buildings and conservation areas, we will also carry out historical research to establish a sense of how the site has evolved through time.
We believe in design that responds to and complements the existing environment whilst avoiding self-conscious pastiche.
We are also committed to design for sustainability and encourage clients to incorporate sustainable energy principles in the early stages of design of their buildings, subject to independent advice on the potential financial costs/benefits of adopting sustainable design solutions.
Our Director, David Wright, has over 35 years’ professional experience, gained in both the arts and cultural sectors as well as more recently in residential development. A chartered member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, David has designed, built and refurbished many high-profile cultural and heritage buildings and interiors in the UK and abroad.
He is now increasingly focusing on the design of new one-off houses and residential conversion, renovation and extension project. He is supported by our architectural team located in their office in Maidstone.
In addition to architectural design, we provide wider consultancy services when required. David provides theatre planning and interior design consultancy.
Senior Consultant Rowena Willard-Wright brings over 15 years’ experience working with museums, cultural organisations and historic buildings to the team and provides museum planning and collections management consultancy as well as experience in producing conservation management plans and heritage statements.
We can also call on other highly experienced individuals and specialist consultant firms to join our team and tailor it to specific client needs, thus offering a bespoke service at highly economic rates.
Our deep commitment to the fulfilment of our clients’ individual needs in the creation of their built environment, together with passion for the visual and performing arts, lies at the heart of the Arts Architecture ethos.
